Welcome to the RootedHosting Blog
We've been quietly hosting websites, services, even game servers for friends, family, and some customers for a while now; currently we're opening up to a small number of new customers. This blog is where we'll share updates, thoughts on what 'green hosting' really means, and the occasional behind-the-scenes look at what we're building.
Who we are
RootedHosting is run by two real human beings who both work in the IT world:
- James, based in Manchester, handles the customer-facing side, web development, and support. James has been specifically in the IT industry for the past 4 years but prior to getting an "IT" in his job title he's created and hosted websites for the better part of a decade.
- Adam, based in Norfolk, handles support and operates our two datacenter sites to keep the infrastructure running and growing. Adam has spent 20 years building datacenters and running high-performance computing systems — including for some well-known names in the automotive industry.
Why solar?
We built this because we wanted hosting we could feel good about. The web runs on electricity, and most of that electricity still comes from fossil fuels. Our datacenters run entirely on solar energy — not offsets, not credits, actual solar panels (soon to include some wind!).
It means our carbon footprint is as close to zero as we can get, and it means your website or hosted service isn't contributing to the problem that we currently face of severely lacking resource and potential drains to our infrastructure.
What's next
We've started small on purpose. A limited number of customers, personal support, and infrastructure we can actually stand behind. As we grow capacity, we'll open up more spots.
